Will the Real Neenah Please Stand Up?
Ahhhh, consistency. Coaches love it and high school age hockey teams rarely achieve it! This has definitely been the case with the Neenah boys hockey team this year.
Neenah began the season by defeating #10 Arrowhead 1-0, despite being outshot 38 to 17. Next up for the Rockets was Waupun. After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, Neenah proceeded to give up 6 straight goals and lose by a final score of 6-3. Waupun outshot them in the game 29-20. Next on the docket was #2 Fond du Lac who crushed the Rockets 12-1 including 4 shorthanded goals. Neenah was outshot 59-6 in the contest. So what did the Rockets do next? Tonight they knocked off cross-town rival #7 Appleton United, despite being outshot 39-12.
So, Neenah has two wins against top 10 teams, but is 2-2. They are giving up an average of 5 goals per game so far, and scoring an average of 2 goals per game. The Rockets are averaging just 13.75 shots per game, while allowing 41.25 shots per game. I noticed there is not a picture of Head Coach Jeff Lindemann in Pointstreak, but I'm guessing if he did not have gray hair prior to the season starting, he has some now....
