Badger Alumni Update

Here’s a little round-up of Badgers playing in the NHL/AHL/ECHL this season.

(Thanks to Todd Milewski’s blog and some friends at Buckyville for helping me keep track of the players whom I don't follow quite as closely as others. Please let me know if I made any errors or if I neglected any Badgers.)

NHL
Looking at the rookies -- Adam Burish (Chicago), Tom Gilbert (Edmonton), Joe Pavelski (San Jose), and Brian Elliott (Ottawa) have made their teams’ opening day rosters.

Chris Chelios (Detroit), Brian Rafalski (Detroit), Ryan Suter (Nashville), Dany Heatley (Ottawa), Steve Reinprecht (Phoenix), Rene Bourque (Chicago), Brad Winchester (Dallas), and Andy Woznewski (Toronto) have also made their teams’ opening day rosters. Sean Hill will be playing for Minnesota after he serves the remaining 19 days of his suspension.

By the way, Dave Tanabe was in St. Louis’ training camp on a tryout basis but was released.

AHL
Looking at the rookies -- Jack Skille and Jake Dowell will both start out the season with the Rockford Ice Hogs, Robbie Earl will start out with the Toronto Marlies, Andrew Joudrey will start out with the Hershey Bears, and Joe Piskula and Jeff Likens will start out with the Manchester Monarchs.

Also in the AHL -- Alex Brooks (Peoria Rivermen), Brian Fahey (Chicago Wolves), and Matt Hussey (Lake Erie Monsters).

Ross Carlson signed a contract in September with the Texas Wildcatters (Minnesota's ECHL affiliate) and was in training camp for the Houston Aero's (Minnesota's AHL affiliate). I can't find a current roster for either team, so I don't know if he'll start out with the Wildcatters or the Aero's. (Does anyone know what a Wildcatter is?)

ECHL
Andy Brandt will be playing for the Gwinnett Gladiators again this year, and Ryan MacMurchy and Dan Boeser will both be playing for the Elmira Jackals.

IHL
David Hukalo will be playing for the Fort Wayne Komets.

I have some links to articles about some of the rookies playing in the NHL/AHL this year. I’ll try to organize them and get them up later in the day.
