UW-UND Thoughts

Tonight I got my first chance to see the Badgers in action, albeit via television. Just a few thoughts on the Badgers:

*Mike Davies can really handle the puck, but there were a couple of shifts where he was a HUGE defensive liability. One of the shifts was with a minute left in regulation. He needs to figure out how to play defense or Coach Eaves needs to show him the bench for a night so he gets the message.

*The two guys UW would seem to be counting on for offense this year both left the game injured tonight....Ross Carlson and Jack Skille...god forbid both of those guys are out for any sort of extended time period as the Badgers have no margin for error with their offense.

*Jamie McBain fumbled the puck that led to UND's overtime goal. That stuff is going to happen with Freshmen, and UW is playing a lot of Freshman. You have to take the good with the bad when it comes to Freshmen-remember, McBain was the one who fired the great pass to Ford to send him in on the breakaway for the Badgers' first goal.

*John Mitchell is a big guy....even bigger than I remember him from his high school playing days...he seems to have made progress since joining the Badgers as a grey shirt in January last season....it will be interesting to follow his progress. I can honestly say I'm surprised that he's already played two out of three games.

*Man has Skille improved his speed. His acceleration is very impressive. Did I mention I hope he is not hurt badly?
